So, despite that fact that i'm on at least 2 supposedly-national no-call lists, I got a recorded phone call this morning.

The recording of the nice lady was telling me quite emphatically that it was absolutely critical that i register to vote in this state so that our "republican leaders can continue to get elected and fight and win the war on terror".

I found this to be a bit disturbing for several reasons:

1) At no point did it mention anything about the democratic process of duly elected officials.

2) At no point did it mention anything about an individual's right to decide which parties to vote for.

3) The underlying assumption of the recorded message was that i, when i inevitably register, will vote republican

4) ...because that's the 'right thing to do'.

5) The message blatantly uses the 'war on terror' as a campaign boost - even though you can't declare war on a concept and it almost seems like they're saying it's a good thing - 'yeah, vote for the guys who brought you the War On Terror'

Really, there's nothing else i could do by roll my eyes.

Technically, since odds are they were a non-profit organization the no-call list does not apply to them. However, you're missing out on the worst of the mess. It was a recording. They are saying, it is okay to waste your time with this, but not ours. Now if it was an actual person calling to promote the republican party and to encourage you to vote, that at least sends the impression we believe this is a worthy enough cause to have people actively recruiting you.

The message was from the National Republican Congressional Committee - or something similar, which, despite what they might say, i believe to be a definite for-profit organization. ;) Lets see, using the rules to your advantage. Hmm...Lawful Evil? ~PS

I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the definition of "politician" there is a clause about a lawful evil alignment requirement. Right after the reference to propaganda and before the note about the importance of not getting caught.

Penguinsushi says...

so, do we add p-class 'politician' to the lsdmg right after 'bully'? I mean, they seem to go together... ~PS

I just got another one. "This year's elections will give us a choice - a choice between republicans who will win the war and lower taxes, or democrats who want to 'cut and run' in the war and raise taxes". So i'm expecting the next call to tell me that the republicans will do my homework and the democrats will kill my dog. ...nevermind the fact that i have neither homework nor a dog... yeah. ~PS

The Evilest Penguin says...

Well, then the Republicans will have to push a bill through Congress making sure every American gets the homework and the dog they are entitled to. THEN they can say that the Democrats will deprive you of your homework and dog. Its all a sick twisted scheme. ;)

Do me a favor and wait to see if it gives you the opportunity to speak with someone. If it does, politely, but firmly, attempt to get the person on the other end to vote Jedi Party in the next election. God has granted you this opportunity that I have been denied. I don't get many good telemarketers these days. The last one i did tell to hold on while i clearly had a discussion with myself about how much to donate.

I thought it was Democrats that are the entitlement pushers? Maybe the universe has flopped since I went to work today. Given the day I in fact had, I wouldn't be surprised. In any case, as previously stated all politicians are corrupt. Hail Anarchy and self-rule! :P
