Ok, so this isn't really steampunk, but I like the titles so much i'm gonna label it that anyway.

Here's the second nerf gun i've mod'ed and repainted. Like its predecessor, it's functionally only about 95%. In this case, the cylinder doesn't always index correctly when the trigger is pulled, making it somewhat unreliable. It *does*, however, seem to be getting better the more i play with it. I suspect i got a little too much paint on some of the more sensitive moving parts.

It *looks* pretty awesome though, and it will compliment the rest of my costume nicely. Now all i need is some sort of holster.

I added some more pics of this one to the Steamnerf Gallery.

Robb's didn't shoot reliably even without paint on it. :-P

This is true, and i remembered that when i was reassembling it. At this point, it is about 75% more reliable than when i wrote this entry, and often i can shoot all 6 darts with no problems at all...but sometimes it gets caught up for a few shots...it's almost like you have to get it 'back in a groove' before it'll start working right again. Costume is 90% constructed. :-D It's currently composed of 9 distinct elements. ~PS

Mine actually shot well with the darts that came with it. The 'reloads' that I bought have different tips that get caught as the cylinder rotates.

That's right... ...well, i'd say be careful when you're painting & reassembling yours...it might exhibit some similar symptoms until it gets worn-in. ~PS

Hey... How hard was it to put this thing back together? I'm getting ready to tackle it here at work...

Assuming you remember how you took it apart, it's not too bad. It's not a terribly complex design. A couple of notes: Make sure you remember the spring that goes on the cylinder axle so you don't have to pry that thing off again, cause that's a pain. Speaking of, just so you know, the orange end goes toward the front of the gun (away from the trigger) - they're different sizes and yes, that *does* matter. Ask me how i know this... Additionally, re-seating the end you pried off will probably require some leverage beyond just pressing it on with your thumb. There aren't really any 'tricky' parts or aspects that require doing a bunch of things at once. Shouldn't give you much trouble. Depending on your painting, it may require a little 'wearing in' to become somewhat reliable functionally. I recommend testing it on coworkers. ;) ~PS

I got mine back together nicely, and it shoots even better than before! The only other things I have noticed is that the cylinder seems 'wobbley' when I push it out for a reload. I guess the design was to prevent full cylinder access but maintain a 'true line'. Wanna test range this weekend?

Cool. I probably just did something slightly wrong with mine, but i'm happy enough with it. Sure, if we can find some time for it. ~PS
